The Network’s ambition is that everyone in the UK who has Parkinson’s will eventually have access to a high quality dance experience.
The Network aims to do this by supporting professional development of dance artists to deliver high quality activity and by supporting the strategic development of dance provision for people with Parkinson’s in partnership with other organisations.
The Dance for Parkinson’s Network UK offers a range of professional development activities throughout the year, including several networking and practice-sharing events. As part of People Dancing’s annual Summer School and in conjunction with Dance for PD® Director, David Leventhal, the Network offers a training opportunity for dance practitionersinterested in engaging in this area of work, as well as for more advanced teachers.
A mentoring scheme has been set up as another way of enhancing the quality of dance for Parkinson’s work nationally. An experienced dance for Parkinson’s teacher is paired with another dance artist who would like to take advantage of bespoke mentoring and dialogue. With generous funding from the Barings Foundation, the Network is now at an exciting time of reflection and development on how best to realise it’s ambition.
